Lecture: Essentials of Advanced Astrophysics (4 hours lecture plus 2 hours tutorial)

This lecture for Master of Astrophysics and Master of Physics students will give an introduction into the whole field of astrophysics.

The following topics will be covered in the first part of the lecture (until 9 June), held by Prof. Thomas Preibisch:

• Introduction, Solar System
• Coordinate Systems and Celestial Mechanics
• Telescopes and Instruments
• Matter and Radiation
• Stars: Global Properties and Spectra
• Stellar Structure
• Stellar Surfaces and Magnetic Activity
• Exoplanets and Habitability
• Stellar Evolution and Final Stages
• Interstellar Medium

The second part of the lecture will cover the topics of Galaxies, Structure of the Universe, and Cosmology and will be held by Prof. Joseph Mohr.
