Magneticum Pathfinder

Magneticum

The Magneticum Pathfinder Suite of Simulations is a sample of fully hydrodynamical cosmological simulations covering boxes of different sizes and resolutions, sampling a WMAP cosmology with Ω0 = 0.272, ΩΛ = 0.728, h = 0.704, σ8 = 0.809, and a primordial power spectrum index n = 0.963.
Box Length Maximum Resolution

Box 1 1273 mr 2×15123
Box 2b 909 hr 2×28803
Box 2 500 hr 2×15843
Box 3 182 uhr* 2×15363

*Box 3 uhr only ran to z = 1.7; its full run down to z=0 is available in all lower resolutions.

Simulation_Comparison

A comparison between the Magneticum simulations and other commonly known full cosmological hydrodynamical simulations with respect to resolution elements and box volumes is shown on the right.

For more information, see

Those simulations are accompanied by dark matter only simulation control runs, and a set of 15 simulations of Box 1 mr level with different cosmological setups, see Singh et al., 2020

In Magneticum, each gas particle can spawn up to four stellar particles, with their masses depending on the condition of birth of that stellar particle. Therefore, stellar particles have differing masse, but for comparison to other simulations average stellar masses can be provided. For the different resolutions, the particle masses and softenings are:
mDM mGas mStars εDM εGas εStars
[M] [M] [M] [kpc] [kpc] [kpc]
mr 1.85×1010 1.7×109 9.2×108 14.2 14.2 7.1
hr 9.8×108 2×108 5×107 5.3 5.3 2.8
uhr 5.1×107 1.0×107 2.6×106 2 2 1
As this project is still evolving, additional simulations with different resolutions, volumes, or physics will be added with time.
