  Enhancements of WM-basic

April 21, 2002:

The release of WM-basic 2.11 is announced.
The most significant enhancements and modifications are:

  • WM-basic has now a setup program which configures it automatically for the version of Windows that you are using - Windows XP/2000/NT/9x. It is safe to install WM-basic 2 in the same folder as earlier releases.
  • A HTML Help documentation has been included which contains a basic description of the interface, frequently asked questions and user relevant technical information.
  • A Toolbar has been included which allows the user to run parts of the program package, view input and output files as well as the actual working directory. Due to the first point WM-basic runs now as a multithread application. The primary thread is as in previous versions always present and addressable via mouse clicks within the main child window. Other threads are additionally initiated via the Toolbar.
  • WM-basic can now also directly be started via a shortcut on WM-basic.exe - the shortcut is to be found on the desktop and can of course be copied or moved to a place of your choice.

Enhancements and significant modifications of the program package:

  • The line-force calculation is now consistent with the blocking/blanketing procedure. This feature however is not yet part of the WM-basic standard, since its usage requires experience and special knowledge.
  • The SNIa path is now also consistent with the blocking/blanketing procedure. Up to now this path is however still in an explorative state.
  • The atomic data archive has been improved.
  • Recent improvements concerning some values of the solar abundances have been incorporated.
  • The new version contains significant enhancements and stability and performance improvements. Prior updates are combined into this setup-package.

April 06, 2001:

The release of WM-basic 1.22 is announced.
The most significant enhancements and modifications are:

  • Enhanced Project Management - WM-basic can now run a model (with different parameters) several times without closing the window and restarting it (everything will be overwritten except the standard output file, which is saved for comparison purposes).
  • The already performed model run can now be used to additionally compute the synthetic spectrum in several different wavelength regions (up to 20) -- X-Ray, EUV, UV, Optical. This can be done immediately after the model run or later by a restart of WM-basic in the same directory - you are asked whether you want to rerun the model or just compute the spectrum. The calculated normalized flux is stored in the file 'stoflux'. The basic parameters of the wavelength regions can be choosen and edited via a special, easy to use interface. For this task the parameter sets can be accessed from a list-box. This new tool, however, is just available for models calculated with at least version 1.19.
  • Before you install the new version over your present one you should rename your preference files '..\WM-basic\System\PaCoIn1.dat' and, if present,
    '..\WM-basic\System\
Synspecr.dat' to '..\WM-basic\System\... .dat' and '..\WM-basic\System\... .swr', respectively. These files can now be opened directly in the corresponding dialog boxes.
  • The programs Fmulti and Hydro have been made more stable.

June 30, 2000:

The release of WM-basic 1.16 is announced.
The most significant enhancements and modifications are:

  • Enhanced Project Management - the basic parameters of a model can now be edited via a special, easy to use interface.
  • The parameter sets of a model grid can easily be accessed from a combo-list.
  • The input file has been changed slightly - the He abundance is now a unique number for all programs - the old files will still work, however.
  • The programs Hydro, Gtemp and Fmulti have been made more stable.
  • The atomic data archive has been enhanced and improved.
